How many things can I check out?
Regular card: 5 books, 3 videos, 2 DVDs, 3 CDs, 2 audio series
Middle School card: 3 books, 1 CD
Kids card: 2 books

When are my things due?
Books: 3 weeks
Everything else: 1 week

How do I use self-checkout?
Self-checkout are the blue slips found throughout the library in Union Place and at the desk in Ac4. Writing LEGIBLY, please fill in your name, phone number, titles of books/tapes, and then write the 5-digit barcode found on the back of the book or bottom of the tape. Regular due-dates apply.

I have a suggestion for the library. Who can I talk to?

Is there a card catalog?
There will soon be an online catalog to browse. In the meantime, stop by the office, call, or email to find out if we've got what you're looking for.

Threads and the Library

ACAC has, as you know by now, given a great deal of time, prayer, and thought into the new intentional culture shift that will be starting up this summer. More info on it, including FAQs (check the left sidebar) can be found here on the main site, acac.net.

How does the library fit into this new structure?

Worship: We have, of course, books on worship. We also have a great selection of worship CDs!

Grow: I would love to see someone start a book-discussion growth group that the library could sponsor. It could meet in one of the cafe's on a weeknight, and could be an alternative or supplement to the sermon-based growth groups that will be appearing this summer.

Serve: Service opportunities galore! Once the new schedule starts, slots for new volunteers will be opening up in all services. We are always looking for new members for the library team. You only have to commit to one hour each week, and it's fun! You get to meet new people, help patrons find the materials they need, and bond with other volunteers.

How to Cover Paperback Books at Home

So you've decided you want to help out the ACAC Library by giving a bit of your time covering books in the comfort of your own home. Thank you! With your help, the library gets materials into hands of hundreds of people each week.

Covering books can be a sticky process, so I thought that this tutorial might help those of you who need to brush up on your book covering skills. Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it goes quickly. Here we go!

1. Here are the supplies that will come in your Cover-at-Home Kit: a roll of covering material, several books, a pair of scissors, and a smoothing tool known as a bone folder. Make sure you have enough space on your work table.

2. The first thing you will do is unroll the covering material and fold it over the book, just to see how much you need. I usually go about two squares past the cover of the book (as shown below). You aren't sticking anything yet - just measuring.

3. Cut off the amount of covering material you need, as determined in the previous step.

4. Using the book as a guide, unpeel the covering material from its backing. You can see that I've used the book to make sure I've unpeeled about half of the sticky side, which makes it easier to cover one side of the book at a time.

5. Lay the book's front cover flat on the sticky side of the covering material, and make four cuts as indicated on the dotted lines.

6. By making these cuts, you have created the first flap that will go on the inside cover of the book, like so:

6a. Smooth the outside flap down on the inside cover of the book.

7. Now flip everything over so the cover is facing you. Use the bone folder to smooth any bubbles that have appeared toward the top and bottom of the book, where they can escape.

8. Remember the small cuts you made toward the spine of the book? These create the top and bottom flaps for the inside of the front cover.

9. Fold them down, like so, and you're halfway there! See, this isn't so hard.

10. Next, unpeel the rest of the covering material from its backing.

11. This is a trick to help eliminate bubbles and get a smooth stick: roll the book onto the covering material.

12. Repeat the process for making the flaps and smoothing the bubbles on the back cover of the book (steps 5-8). This is what it will look like for you to make the top and bottom flap cuts when the book is almost finished.

13. As you can see, the inside back cover is the same as the inside front, with three flaps.

14. All you have left is to snip off the ends of sticky paper that remain at the top and bottom of the spine, and you're through!

15. You now have one perfectly covered book, ready for use at the ACAC Library.
